Large Hadron

Well, the Large Hadron Collider has been started up and it didn’t quite destroy the world because the “test was simply to see if the LHC’s beam would successfully navigate its almost-17-mile ring. Collisions come later.” Click here for first picture in gallery.

C’mon, don’t think about that. Look, Google changed its customary graphic to one of the LHC, and just gaze at that red, glowing detector above.

Apple’s latest “Get a Mac” commercial “consists of two different ad sections on the site both loading in sync and communicating to each other.” Video after the break.

The ‘Mac’ is shown at the top ad, and the ‘PC’ on the right side, and they continue to speak to each other in another example of a successful and funny Apple ad.

Lotus

Set for release in Octoboer, the sleek LG Lotus will be priced at $150 and is “inspired by makeup accessories every woman on the planet carries around.” Click here for first picture in gallery.

The keyboard especially is a joy to use. The keys are bubbly, well defined, and give a distinctive click when you hit the key.

Touch Pro

Early reviewers report that Sprint’s Touch Pro “isn’t actually any larger than its GSM cousin; the curves applied around the edges here definitely add a few optical pounds and it’s still pretty pocketable.” Video after the break. Click here for first picture in gallery.

The keyboard is fantastic (as all HTC keyboards tend to be) and we were surprised at how tasteful — nice, even — the chrome rings around the around the edges of the two halves actually are when you see them.

The QFOs will probably be available come late September, and will come with a UFO body that can be attached for added effect.

As if you needed any confirmation that Dell wasn’t just going to abandon the Inspiron Mini 9 all by its lonesome in the marketplace, Laptop Mag spoke with Dell’s Senior Product Line Manager John New, who had some comforting words for the multi-SKU crowd. John confirmed that built-in 3G is in the works, a dedication to cramped SSD drives and a potential six-cell battery. He also stated that “As we get into the category, we reserve the right to do more,” which could mean a 10-inch version, though we’re also getting wind of a 12-incher in the wings.
