Owners of yesteryear Apple products (and consumer advocates) had a pretty solid week. Friday it came to light that more than two million 2001-era PowerBook owners could be eligible for refunds between $25 and $75 in a class-action settlement (which is set for final approval on September 8th) over faulty, sometimes even sparking power adapters. But that’s not all: Apple is also offering up $45 credits to any Canadian iPod owner that bought before June 24th, 2004 as part of a class-action suit claiming Apple misrepresented the advertised battery life of the players.

back to my macHere’s a little story for you: An Apple Store employee had a party in her apartment. A couple weeks later her place was cleared out to the tune of about $5,000 worth of electronics, including her new Mac. Days later, a friend sees that she’s online and alerts the Mac’s rightful owner. Since she was running Leopard with Back to My Mac, owner-girl logged in remotely and activated Photo Booth via the screen-share function. And what do you know, it turned out that the thieves were some “friends” who were at the party a few weeks back. She took the photos to the cops and — voila — busted! The thieves, Edmon Shahikian, 23, and Ian Frias, 20, both of the Bronx, have been charged with second-degree burglary and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Go go crafty nerdy girl!

Unlike other lamps, the Luxalive “reacts to your position to give you the best light, reading over your shoulder and increasing its brightness ever so often.” Video after the break.

Sounds nice enough, but the Luxalive also craves your attention, coaxing you to play with the glowing red nub at its end if you want it to keep the lights on.

In Killzone 2 for the PlayStation 3, “a substantial portion of the game takes place on the Helghast home planet of Helghan - shifting from the ISA colony planet of Vekta featured entirely in the two previous games.” Video after the break. Click here for first picture in gallery.

It is still unknown whether this is a full scale invasion intended to occupy Helghan completely or merely a retaliatory strike by the ISA for the events that took place on Vekta during the Helghast invasion.

These modular block seats is an object of envy for anyone looking for unique home furnishings. Designed by Joe Doucet, the Space Modular Seating system basically lets you “transform your living space on a whim, thanks to its moveable seating towers.” Click here for one more picture.

To rearrange your space, simple slide the different height cushions into the system’s gridded base, and you can completely change the look and layout of your couch in seconds.

You don’t need to spend a fortune traveling around the world, filming in exotic locations to create an interesting music video. There are “tons of cool ways to use a Mac to the song of ‘Again & Again’ by the Bird & the Bee.” Video after the break.

The set? His Mac desktop. You sort of have to see it for yourself to understand; luckily, Dennis has dropped it on YouTube so that the world can see it in low-res glory.

More than just a cell phone, the “Handphone” allows users to place calls using natural hand gestures or voice commands. No word yet on availability. Click here for first picture in gallery.

The navigation and control of the phone is done using natural gestures, as well as including voice commands. One thing we’ll say is that the LCD display on this device is in desperate need of an upgrade.

If Bungie hadn’t been bought out by Microsoft and partnered with Nintendo for Halo 3, this is what the game might have looked like. Video after the break.

Oh, most of the punchlines are predictable stereotypes (you see, Nintendo develops games like this and Microsoft develops games like this) but, c’mon, some of it’s pretty clever.

The Xbox 360’s entry in the swamp market is right on the money with this custom, Gator-fied case. It’s “covered with a lizard-textured skin, and even has an realistic alligator eyeball in place of its power switch.” Click here for first picture in gallery.

Xbox 360 modder dfwmonkie created the system’s scaly gator skin using hand-sculpted layers of Bondo, coated with paint and clear-coat to give it the glossy wet look.
